November is almost over: Have you met your writing goals?

Did you set a goal this month?  Did you meet your goal?

As those of you who have been following my NaNo progress know, I accepted a challenge from the NaNoWriMo folks to write 50K words in 30 days - from November 1 to November 30.  If you think of this in terms of pages with about 250 words per page, 50K words is roughly equivalent to 200 pages.

No way did I think I could write so much in so little time.  But with the encouragement of some fellow Eastside RWA and GSRWA members, I decided to sign up for the challenge and do my best with the thought that whatever I did manage to write would be more than I had at the beginning of the challenge.

Ahh, the positive power of peer pressure.  It is truly amazing what you can accomplish when you set a goal and have the daily support of your family and friends.  As I mentioned in a previous post, I was lucky to be taking on the NaNo challenge in the company of some extraordinary women - The NaNo Insanity Support Group.   Daily check-ins and positive reinforcement helped push me further than I ever thought possible.  And on November 25, 2009, the day before Thanksgiving, I passed the 50K line.  I made my goal with a few days to spare!

Now that I've met this goal, what's next?  Lucky for me, some ladies from my NaNo Insanity Support Group and I have decided to keep the NaNo Insanity going through the month of December.  This is perfect for me.

My new goal for the month of December is to write about 35K words which together with some other bits and pieces I've got should give me a total of about 100K words by the end of the year.

By the start of 2010 I will have completed a rough draft of my manuscript and be ready to begin the revision process during which I will be adding layers to my story to make it the best it can be.

Dear readers, I've put my goal out there in front of all of you because it is your constant support and encouragement that will get me through the holiday season while writing and avoiding the many, many distractions that are around us everyday at this time of year.

Please let me know your thoughts on this blog or anything else by clicking on the comment link below.

Until next time, happy writing!
Kristine

Hey Kristine...I was thinking about your busy fingers and was wondering how close you are to your goal. Will your draft copy be under the Christmas Tree?

      Hi Edith,
Thanks for asking.  I'm actually very close to my goal.  Overall, as of last night, I'm at 88K words.  I'm targeting between 100K and 110K words overall.
My December goal was 35K words and I'm now at 13K which is a little over 1/3 of the way and right on track.

I'm doing my best to make sure that a full draft is finished by December 31, 2009.  My beta readers should expect to see it sometime in early March.

You can see daily updates on the front page of my website at http://www.kristinecayne.com in the facebook badge.

Thank you for all your support!

It's been a while since I have asked you how you are doing with your revision. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy so that I can start reading your story. I guess it must not always be easy to discipline yourself to work at this project all the time, especially when you have another full time job. Talk to you soon!

      Hi Edith,
Thank you so much for your comments and your encouragement. Yes, it is difficult to always dedicate a fixed amount of time to writing. Life and work do tend to get in the way.  But I'm not giving up!  I squeeze in some time whenever I can.  My first pass revisions are about half done. And, I've begun plotting my second book!  So, while it is taking longer than planned, it will happen one way or another and sooner rather than later.
I love hearing from you so please comment again when you have the time!
